Keep Em Wet- Fly Fishing the Owyhee River

There’s nothing like the quiet found on the river. Unless you’re fishing with me then you’ll probably hear some laughing, smart assed self narrating, and definitely some cursing. If I’m lucky enough you might even hear me excitedly and questionably announce “fish on!?!”

This Spring I was lucky enough to have a friend and guppy slaying genius put a fly rod in my hand and guide me into a sport I never thought I’d fall for. When I landed my first little trout, I grabbed him out of the net and realized he wasn’t the only one that was hooked. Fishing comes with every single emotion. There have been times where I’ve been completely soaked and freezing, didn’t land a single fish, or spent the whole day untangling knots, and I can still whole heartedly say that I’ve never had a bad day on the river.

Fishing provides me the time to think, and a reason not to. The sight and sound of a fish crushing a perfectly placed fly, the tightening of my line and the uncertainty of who will win the showdown to the net is a rush like no other.

If you’re determined to learn, no one can stop you. Grateful that nature has so much to give and provides endless opportunities to learn. And so so thankful for my friend and guppy guide Tarek for his patience and willingness to share his love and knowledge of this incredible sport . If anything, he makes me look like I know what I’m doing!! Check out this video, go give it a like and subscribe and then go follow Idaho_Untamed on Instagram.
